A man has been sentenced to four years and eight months’ imprisonment in the Royal Court for importing 24kg of cannabis.
On 16 March 2026 a UK registered Peugeot 3008, driven by 39-year-old Andrew Chard, was selected for examination by Jersey Customs & Immigration Service, JCIS, Officers having arrived on the ferry from Portsmouth. During a subsequent search 24 kilos of cannabis resin was found concealed in and around the front and rear bumpers of the vehicle. At the time Chard made no admissions in relation to the cannabis however evidence was extracted from his phone by JCIS Officers which strongly suggested he was knowingly concerned in the importation of the cannabis. Chard pleaded guilty to the importation charge when he first appeared in court.
A JCIS Expert Witness provided a maximum street value for the cannabis in Jersey of £593,000.
JCIS Senior Manager Luke Goddard said: “This is a significant quantity of cannabis and the criminals involved would have made a substantial financial profit. This is a great example of the diligence of the JCIS Officers concerned in both finding the drugs and investigating the offence, resulting in the successful conviction of the criminal importing the cannabis.’
